BRENDAN FRASER ON J.J. ABRAMS' "SUPERMAN"

Brandonsuperman01 While speaking to actor Brendan Fraser about Journey to the Center of the Earth 3-D and The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, Voices From Krypton editor Edward Gross had the opportunity to speak to actor Brendan Fraser about both films. Additionally, the conversation veered to the J.J. Abrams screenplay for "Superman," for which Fraser was offered the title role. What follows are his reflections of that experience.

WEB-SPINNER: SPIDER-MAN 4 GETS THE GREEN LIGHT?

Spiderman_logo_2 According to Nikki Finke's Deadline Hollywood Daily, a deal has been struck between Sony and director Sam Raimi and actor Tobey Maguire for Spider-Man 4, and possibly Spider-Man 5, which, if that was the case, would shoot back to back. The script(s) is written by Zodiac scribe James Vanderbilt. It is also hoped that Kirsten Dunst will be returning as Mary Jane Watson.
Adds Finke, "Sony is taking its time officially hiring the movie's villain since principal photography doesn't start on Spider-Man 4 until next fall because of the recently postponed May 2011 release. I am told, however, that 'once you find out who the villain is, you'll know who's playing it.' That should lead to speculation that Dylan Baker's character of Dr. Curt Connors will ultimately turn into the Lizard as he did in the comic books." For the full story, click HERE.

SUPERMAN RETURNS...AGAIN

Brandonrouth IESB.net is reporting on the annual Showest convention and quoting Warner Bros.' as stating that Superman: Man of Steel is definitely happening, and that Bryan Singer will remain as director (which would seem to assure that Brandon Routh will be reprising his dual role of Superman and Clark Kent). The newest bit of information to come out of the report is that departing writers Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris will be replaced by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman. Orci and Kurtzman, of course, are the writers behind Mission: Impossible 3, Transformers and JJ Abrams' forthcoming Star Trek prequel. No word, of course, on what the new film will be about, though one can be relatively confident that Supes will do more than lift some rocks. Darkseid anyone? We're just saying....

THIS WEEK ON THE BATMAN... WITH ALAN BURNETT

WONDER WOMAN & BATMAN CAST?

Galeww1 According to aint-it-cool-news.com, the previously rumored Megan Gale has been 100% cast as Wonder Woman in the Justice League movie. There's no way to be sure, of course, but at least this seems like a positive indication that the project is still moving forward. Given the Writer's strike and all of those (sometimes ridiculous) rumors that had flooded the net, there was concern that the project had been aborted. Hopefully further word will be coming soon from Warners.
Over at iesb.net came word that actor Armie Hammer had been cast in the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne. Most of his previous acting credits have been as a guest starring actor in a number of network TV series, among them Arrested Development, Veronica Mars and Desperate Housewives. One confusing aspect of his casting is the fact that the approach was supposedly going to be that the members of the Justice League had been teaming up for several years by theArmiehammer  time the adventure of the film takes place. Hammer, however, is only 20 years old -- younger than the character was in Batman Begins. As with Megan Gale, the studio has had no comment.

THE JUSTICE LEAGUE GOES ON

Justice_league_logo Just last week Variety was raising a concern that without the ability for rewrites due to the Writer's Strike, the movie version of Justice League would have to be postponded. According to a report that surfaced today at iesb.net, that's not the case at all.  "The WGA is not slowing down the WB and its plan to get Justice League on track," notes the site. "WB sources tell IESB that the cast will be announced this week. They tell the IESB that unlike the story ran by the trades, casting is 100% locked. The cast has been chosen and sworn to secrecy, but official confirmation will happen sometime this week. There have been many names associated with the Justice League throughout the last few months that it would make anybody's head spin.  Looks like this will all come to an end by the end of this weeknd. HAS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE MET ITS MATCH?

Justiceleaguelogo1 Although Max Lord, the OMACs and Superman himself are rumored to be the villains of George Miller's forthcoming Justice League, according to Variety, the supposedly go project may be held back by the Writer's Strike. Notes the trade, "Warner Bros. execs are nervous about how to proceed with Justice League of America, which is still uncast and is a crucial potential franchise boasting popular DC Comics characters." The bottom line is that although the studio had stated the script was good to go whether or not there was a strike, the inability to perform rewrites depending on casting or production contingencies is probably not the best way to go forward with a big-budget potential blockbuster.
