Part of the vampire P.I. series Moonlight's appeal is the unique look of the show, the credit for which belongs to to director of photography Marvin Rush, who had previously spent 16 years toiling in the final frontier as part of the Star Trek universe. In this exclusive interview, Marvin discusses what he's been able to achieve on Moonlight, what the challenges of the show are and he even justifiably revels a bit in its success.

I haven't been here in a while, I've been busy with a couple of blogs. Anyway, I enjoyed the interview but (call me old fashioned) I like the vampire rules, I like going by the myth because you innately know the character's strengths and weakness'. Sorry if I'm babbling.

Thank you for posting this. There are so many exceptional areas about this show and Mr. Rush and his crew are certainly one of them along with the set designer, art director, composer and music director. The photography for the show is visually stunning.
The outstanding leads, Alex O'loughlin and Sophia Myles, could not have a better friends in the industry.
Congratulations to all involved in this production.

Thank you for this interview! The cinematography/photography and style of this show are visually stunning and it's nice to see the person behind it, and I had heard that even the crew of this show were fans and watched it, and his comments bear this out. From his mouth to G-d's ears about the back 9 pickup and this show going on for years! It's not just the teen girls in junior high watching but the 30 and 40 and 50 year olds who have fallen in love with this series, and as he said, guys like the show and like Alex as well as women swooning over him, he's a 'man's man' kind of a guy (regular bloke) - and women love Sophia as well as men, she's so gorgeous, her character is so spunky and complicated, and both of them are such terrific actors. And even Shannyn as the evil Coraline was a surprise - she was much softer and gentler and subtle and more vulnerable a villainess than one would expect from the reputation that preceded her. And Jason Dohring brought the most fans to the show from Veronica Mars and is working into his character of Josef if the writers can figure out what to do with him. It's an interesting and complex new take on vampires and their society - and they do have a society in this show, and their bending of the rules/making new rules is also refreshing. Thank you! Love this site, love the reviews, love the goodies you bring us about our shows. :>

Thanks so much for the interview with Mr. Rush! It was terrific learning more about what it takes to bring us Moonlight. I am so hooked on this show and I love the way the photography is done as it adds so much to the feel of Moonlight. Alex O'Loughlin, Sophia Myles, Jason Dohring and Shannyn Sossamon are superb in their roles and definitely make the show remarkable. Many thanks to Marvin Rush and his crew for using their many talents to bring us what is Moonlight's signature filming noir style. Hopefully, CBS will give us some official word on the show being picked up for the rest of the season and a being renewed for season 2.
P.S. I am a proud Moonlighter on Moonlightfans.com

Great Interview. For CBS not to have announced that this show is a definite for the fall line-up seems ludicrous! I don't get it. Everything that needs to be there is there: great cast, great premise, and cohesive story. Yeah, yeah I know there are people who like the old school vamp rules, but times are changing and some of the old school rules of vampirism just wouldn't fly in the modern world. Plus, most of the rules they have 'bent' (not broken) are feasible.
Thanks for the interview. Let's hope the power that be at CBS see fit to put this back on the line up!

I can tell you the 60+ are also fans of this show, what is not to like about it. Great writers, actors, sets, filming and music, Moonlight has the whole package and the fans gave CBS the PCA for Best New Drama. Then CBS turns its back on the fans by now renewing in the first wave of pickups. Shame on CBS.

This is a great interview. I love hearing from the people behind the scenes just as much as the ones in front of the cameras.
Mr Rush and his team did a stellar job on Moonlight. They helped give the show such a wonderful atmosphere with all that Noir lighting, in particular.
It's rather bittersweet hearing him speak so hopefully of the future for the show. I love how enthusiastic everyone involved was...their passion really translated to the screen and made the show great.
